I might have mentioned I’ve been studying with Phil Parker, one of the leading NLP experts in the world, to become an NLP Practitioner. And on Sunday I completed the 120 hours of class room study (plus a ton of study on top) and passed my assessments. Hurrah!
So I’m now a fully-fledged NLP Coach and Practitioner!
But I can hear you asking “So what? And what does that mean anyway”
Fair questions…
NLP is the closest thing to getting a user manual for your brain. And given that 95% of our behaviour is driven by our unconscious mind, understanding what it does and how to change it seems pretty important if I’m going to help my clients get the life they want from their business.
You see, there’s only so far logic will get you when you’re trying to run your business and do the difficult things, especially when there’s so much invested in what you’re doing. You’re building your future and it’s really personal.
We can’t help but get in our own way.
Because most of what we do comes from our unconscious mind, your mind set and deeply held beliefs have a tremendously powerful impact on your day to day behaviour. And this all affects how your business performs and your long term financial position.
Going against our beliefs
Most of us dream of financial freedom, but only the very few will ever get there.
And sometimes it can seem baffling that if we’re working so hard and trying everything, then why aren’t things panning out the way we think they should? Then it’s easy to blame everyone and everything else rather than look at how our own behaviour is affecting our results.
Your brain will go to incredible lengths to protect you from being uncomfortable and from being rejected – all powered by our identity and deeply held beliefs.
When that happens, we find all sorts of intriguing ways to sabotage our results –over and over again!
The most common forms of sabotage I see (and do myself!) are:
- Not following through on the things we know need doing
- Playing out worst case scenarios in our minds
- Being driven by fear of what might happen instead of having faith in what we can achieve
- Getting distracted by easy and insignificant tasks instead of tackling the big things that move us forward (eg email and social media)
- Getting overwhelmed
- Not following up on enquiries and leads
- Playing it safe with marketing
All of which keep us stuck.
Having this new toolkit to play with is already getting some pretty awesome results with my clients. I know how to get someone’s’ business in good financial shape, but telling people what they should do is never going to work unless:
- They themselves believe they can be successful
- If they have a positive belief and mind set around money and success
- They believe they are someone who can follow through on the difficult things
That’s why I wanted to qualify in NLP because I’ve seen what fantastic results I’ve had in my own life using these skills – most notably fully recovering from ME 9 years ago after almost 2 years of not being able to leave the house.
I hope that gives you a flavour of what NLP is all about, and I’ll be talking lots more about financial mind set in the future and understanding just how we can get the life we want.
And if this sounds interesting then why not book a call with me to find out about my new financial mind set coaching?
