It seems that my blog about the budget and its impact on small business owners hit a real nerve last week. And it did what bloggers dream of, it went viral. Ok only in a small way but it’s been all over social media, the Nottingham Post wrote an article about it on Monday and I’ve had more email response than for any other blog post ever. Clearly this is something that the small business community isn’t happy about.
I realised that this is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for and never been brave enough to do – stand up and do something about the low long term survival rate of small companies.
We haven’t got the details ironed out yet, but we’re setting up a campaign called Survive and Succeed. It’s going to involve lobbying the Minister for Small Business Anna Soubry, setting up an online petition against the proposed tax on dividends, lots of media and an event in September. We need to get the politicians to understand that this amounts to an attack on the very people they’re relying on to pull this country out of a deficit. The campaign will also be our vehicle to help more businesses survuve long term.
