We all know people who stopped learning years ago. The people who don’t ever go on courses, listen to podcasts, read articles, who don’t go anywhere new, or have new thoughts or experiences.
They’re the same now as they were then – living in the past, as the same person they were then, but wondering why their lives never change!
Remember I talked last week about how we have 60,000 to 70,000 thoughts a day, most of which are the same as yesterday. Which means we’re literally living in the past, unless we get new information in and make new neural connections in our brain.
Because these same old thoughts become our default program – they govern what we do, and become our habits, our beliefs and our behaviours.
Leaving the comfort zone
If you’re a business owner who’s serious about wanting to build financial
security and freedom for your future, then chances are you’ll need you to grow into someone beyond who you are today.
Every time you do or learn something new, or have a new experience there’s a physical change in your brain. New neural connections are made.
And if you keep growing yourself and therefore your brain, your new thoughts and beliefs take hold in your brain, and these neural connections get glued in place, whilst the connections of old beliefs start to disconnect.
You’re literally changing your mind!
This is neuroplasticity at work. Your brain has a huge capacity to learn new things – it makes your brain fire in new patterns, and grows your capacity to be more, do more and keep growing into the next upgraded version of you.
Conversely if we don’t have new experiences, think new thoughts, learn new things, our brains will weaken over time.
So getting out of your comfort zone, pushing yourself to learn new things, go to new events, (maybe even come on a retreat!) even when it feels uncomfortable or unknown, means you’ll be growing your brain and growing who you are.
And you may just surprise yourself at what you can do!
